Antique Itinerary

Our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour last February maybe jampacked but you'll be left asking for more of its alluring province. I, for one, have regretted not booking more than 2 days. But if you decided to explore and experience Antique's culture and heritage. Here's a sample itinerary:

Bugasong | Patadyong Weaving

During our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour, from Patnongon to Bugasong, we visited a place in Barangay Bagtason where the popular "patadyong" weavers are found. We arrived at around 3 in the afternoon and started our way round the different preparation processes before the weaving of "patadyong" (or a wraparound skirt popularly used by the locals).

Antique | Story behind Anini-y's name

The unique sounding name of the town from Antique, Anini-y, led me to repeat its name in my tongue 'til its sense no longer mean anything to me and with that I wondered how the name came to be.

Antique | Tibiao Fish Spa

Our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour continued after the visit at Bugasong and we had a quick break from all the day's destinations at the Tibiao Fish Spa 'til sunset.

Hamtic | Gen. Leandro Fullon National Shrine and Hamtic's Church

The journey for the Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour continues as we arrive to another municipality where the statue of Gen Fullon stands. Hamtic, formerly named as Antique, is the third municipality in the province of Antique, after which the province was named. It is the oldest town and first capital before it was transferred to San Jose de Buenavista.

Antique | Tobias Fornier Cemetery

After the sidetrip from Punta Hagdan and Taguimtim, enroute to Tobias Fornier's Buri Handicraft Making place during our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour, is this cemetery you'd pass by the highway which, I tell you, has a very catchy phrase right at its entrance. The words in Kinaray-a, "Kami Karon - Kamo Dason," glares at us and since I my mother-tongue is Cebuano which originates also in the Visayas area, I kinda understand the phrase which practically translates to: "Our time has come but yours will come too." Or something like that. Funny and creepy at the same time if you ask me.

Passing through Punta Hagdan, Taguimtim and the cemetery in Tobias Fornier, we reached one of the next highlights of our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour- the buri handicraft making.

Antique | Istorya-Kanta Kinaray-a (Original Kinaray-a Music Concert), Food and Carnival

The day one of our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour's highlight is the Istorya Kanta Kinaray-a or the Original Kinaray-a Music Concert (aka OKM). Kinaray-a is the language mainly spoken in Antique province and some parts in Iloilo, south of Capiz Province and certain villages in Mindanao.

En route to Tobias Fornier from Anini-y is a scenic view of palms edging the beach and the Sulu waves crashing over the rocky and non-rocky shore of Antique. I so wish to stay there until the golden hour but our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour's itinerary tells us otherwise so I have to use the limited time I have to appreciate and frame this wonderful backdrop.

Antique | St. John Church of Anini-y

St John Church San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Church Anini-y Antique

Second stop of the Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour is the centuries old church of St John in the town of Anini-y. Also known as Anitique's San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Church, this Augustinian church began in 1879 under the leadership of Fray Veronico Vaquerin during the Spanish Era. Somewhere on this postcard-perfect church is the Augustinian seal that proves its authenticity. St John is the only preserved colonial church left in Antique.

Anini-y | Sira-an Hot Spring

Moving swiftly through the southern coast leading to Anini-y, the first coastal town of Antique from Iloilo and the capital town of Antique, our Manggad Kang Antique or The Treasures of Antique Heritage Tour began.
