Celebrating Christmas 333 miles away from home

Well, okay, this is actually my first time that I am not going back home for Christmas for some reasons so I am slightly melodramatic. It's not that I won't but I just can't. I know it's a cliche and I now sound like a sore loser, believe me when I tell you that this feeling totally sucks especially seeing my friends going home already for the break. So, instead of feeling sorry for the whole Christmas season where I should be merry and thankful and everything, I need to remind myself that wherever I am, as long as we have each other in our thoughts and hearts, Christmas will still be meaningful. I will continue to reminisce through last year's photos back when had a chance to roam around one of the famous attractions in my hometown (Dumaguete City) --- Freedom Park.

I have known Don Roberto's all my life. Before, it was still called Rosante's Bar and Restaurant from the two friends, Robert and Sante, who started the business. The place was restored after the fire last Jan 2007 and changed its name to Don Roberto's Bar and Restaurant.

Went back to my home town last August in time of Silliman University's Founders Week Celebration and my birthday which happens to be Silliman's Founders Day. It is totally hard to plan anything out of town when you're actually home because the laid back charm of Dumaguete is very inviting. So, I wasn't able to go to places or towns near Dumaguete and will update my blog soon. Soon. *winks*

One of the many things I miss about Dumaguete is dining with friends to places which usually are a tricycle's ride away. One of the places that we often go to to chill, chat, eat, study or relax is MELs Cafe. The place is very accessible for it is near downtown and Rizal Boulevard. It opened sometime before we graduated in college last 2010 and has gained popularity since then.

Dinner after the nice afternoon stroll in the city is what I miss most especially when I'm spending my time with my sister dear. Whenever I go home, which is usually twice or thrice a year, I never try to miss these one of a kind bonding. I don't need to tell you how we love the camera, that's something in common you'll see from our dinner snapshots last Christmas(pardon us). So food plus us is definitely present in this post.

Walk Around Dumaguete City: Silliman University and Bell Tower

An afternoon spent with my sister dear, we walked around the city proper (Silliman University to Rizal Boulevard and the Bell Tower), took some shots and boom it was a laid back blast that I truly miss in my home town.

We started walking in Silliman University Church and took some shots of the place and of course, portraits shots of ourselves too.

Silliman University Church traces its roots to the early Presbyterian mission that laid the cornerstone of Silliman Institute in 1901.

Dumaguete City: Freedom Park, Provincial Capitol and Absin's Residence

It was the Christmas of 2011 when I passed by the colorful Freedom Park of Dumaguete right in front of the Provincial Capitol of Negros Oriental. It was late and I still need to get home to wrap some christmas gifts for the noche bueno surprise but I know that if I don't grab this chance I wouldn't be able to go back here and take some snapshots. Because when I am in my hometown, the laid back feeling to relax and just wander around without the pressure of taking snapshots of this familiar place is so irresistible. But I told myself, no, not this time.

Dumaguete, Negros Oriental : Writing An Itinerary For The First Time

As a newbie to the blogging world, I have no idea how many groups you could actually join and how many new blogger friends you could actually meet. Some of those new found friends are travel bloggers and together with that, I will now experience how to write or plan an itinerary of a trip for the first time! And since I am also new to traveling I would like to choose the place closest to my heart ---Dumaguete City. So come, take a tour at the place known as the University Town and what Rizal quoted as "The City of Gentle People" :)

2012: It's more fun in the Philippines

It has been days since new year but I haven't thought of anything that would serve as my new year post. It seems that I still have a hang-over from my almost 2 weeks vacation in my home town (Note: I also didn't make a year end post) and now, while writing this, I'm still sick (sore throat, fever, cough and colds) and wondering how to make this somewhat interesting. The DOT tag line,"It's more fun in the Philippines", has helped me struggle to find any "catchy" photos of mine that is worth some words. So, let me show my own share of "It's more fun in the Philippines". :)

Silliman University Founder's Day

Just had my 2nd to the longest vacation in Dumaguete last week and although it lasted for a week I wasn't able to fulfill my promise which is to go out of town (like beach or falls) and take pictures of my beloved alma mater, Silliman University. All I had was a glimpse of what is in Dumaguete. Starting with fireworks on the founder's day of Silliman University which coincidentally is my birthday, the greenery in Silliman and the night view at Rizal Boulevard.

My little sister, Alaizah Dawn Lasola also known as Barbie, joined her school's Miss Negros Oriental High School (Miss NOHS) last August 31, 2011. And being the supportive sister, I took the effort to capture this once in a lifetime experience I know she would gladly look back in the future with a smile on her face. She was splendid during the pageant and truly deserved to have the crown.
