The Unforgettable Pico de Loro (Mt Palay-palay)

Pico de Loro Conquerors

Excited. That's how I felt before climbing the monolith in Mt Palay-palay, popularly known as Pico de Loro or the Parrot's Beak, located within the boundary of Batangas and Cavite. Who would not be? Seeing all those inviting pictures of the view from the internet, we were all totally looking forward to have our picture-perfect photo from the monolith. I even bought another shoes for trekking, a week before the climb, so I would be all set for our adventure.

Lost in the Forest: Descent in Pico de Loro (Mt Palay-palay)

I love adventure. The feeling of having a new experience to that familiar or unfamiliar place, it pushes me further, gives me challenges that teaches me different lessons and create memories that I'll never forget.

But there are just some of those misadventures that I heard from other people that I have dreaded to happen to me. And the descent from the lovely monolith and summit of Pico de Loro gave me an out of the ordinary adventure I never thought I'd surpass.

Our group during the climb, which is composed of some new found friends, travel bloggers and an old friend from college, was divided into two. When we stopped somewhere to rest, we waited for the others and decided that the first group goes back to the DENR. We, my college friend, Gino, and I, were chatting on the trail on our descent when we were left behind by some of the ones in the first group who have faster pace than us.

Photograph | Wawa Lake, Angono

Angono | Wawa Lake
Angono | Wawa Lake

It was my first photowalk with PGT last March 2, 2013. I was lucky to go there with some travel friends who are attending and, also, it will be my first to be in Angono. Well, I'm glad I did because now I know what I have been missing. I met a lot of friends and seen many art collections and galleries 'til my feet went numb. With that I can say that it is truly the "Art Capital of the Philippines" for I have seen families passing their artistic skills generation to generation, restaurants/cafes with galleries inside and even in the gates of their homes showcase the different designs of their local artists.

Tappiya Falls, Batad, Ifugao

Tappiya Falls

After the trek to Batad Rice Terraces' peak, we immediately went down to where the falls is. There are several stops where one can actually buy some food and refreshments after the long walk but be warned on how pricey they are! Well, we had no choice so we bought some refreshments anyway.

Photograph | My Rice Terraces Dream

Centuries-old beauty of Batad Rice Terraces

Overwhelmed that I was able to go to another dream destination of mine, first was El Nido of last year, I am out of words on how I should start my Banaue-Batad posts. I think I should give you a quick background when I was still a student in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. I've never had an idea that I would be able to travel after I graduated, back then those picturesque photos in our history textbooks were just my dream destinations. I do not have the luxury to spend another peso aside from my school-student assistant-tutor sideline-assignments/projects/studying regime 'coz I needed to maintain grades for the scholarships.

Pandan Island Escapade | Occidental Mindoro

Pandan Island | Occidental Mindoro
The welcome to Pandan Island view

It was early February of last year when we arrived at around 4pm in another small town of Occidental Mindoro named Sablayan. It is a place known as a boarding point to Pandan Island Resort and Apo Reef/Island.  Since the fare for Apo is far more expensive especially if you are not going in groups, we settled for Pandan Island for now and hope to go back in Sablayan and see Apo Reef/Island next.

Yakimix, Trinoma

Food! My first plate.

Who doesn't love buffet? Especially when that buffet is a treat! Thanks to our offshore and team leads, my team mates and I were able to go Yakimix for lunch thinking we could all wipe out the food there, especially the all time favorite in our group --- shrimp tempura. In the end, we all backed down and stopped gobbling everything we can see because we simply cannot take another anymore.
