Snapshots from Zamboanga: The Asia's Latin City (Part 1)

Klook.com

Great Sta. Cruz Island, Zamboanga

Zamboanga City, an urban city located in the southernmost tip of the Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao, Philippines. It is also known as The Asia's Latin City (Ciudad Latina de Asia ZamboangueƱo Language or Chavacano) mainly because of their a strong Hispanic or Latin influence. The city, today, which has an international airport also serves as the entry point in the Philippines to many destinations in Southeast Asia.

Seat sale definitely paved my way to this city and so let me give you a little glimpse to what is in Asia's Latin City with the following photos:

1) After arriving from the airport we directly went to Jimmy's Satti Haus, a place known for it's spicy skewers with hot and spicy sauce.

2) Fort Pilar's Marian Shrine, which is orignally named as La Fuerza real de San Jose, is dedicated to Our Lady of the Pilar (patroness of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga).

3) Sta. Cruz Islands. The Great Sta. Cruz Island (Pink Sand Beach), where we have been via reservations from the DOT in Zamboanga, is known for it's white beach with a touch of pink from the residues of the pink corals commonly found in the place. The Little Sta Cruz Island is also known for it's white sand beach.

4) Alavar Seafood Restaurant is known for Chavacano's local dish "Curacha," a spanner crab or red frog crab species commonly found in Zamboanga. The name is somehow close to "Cucaracha" which is the spanish term for cockroach.

5) Barter Markets. We have also visited one of the four barter trades in the city which is located in Canelar. These markets have various imported products from its neighboring islands (Malaysia and the like).

6) Pasonanca. We arrived at Pasonanca when it was around twilight and realized that the other parts such as the Boy Scout Grounds, Tree House and others are not available anymore. Hence, we chillaxed at the La Jardin de Maria Clara Lobregat.

7) Antonio's Steak House is located right outside the La Jardin de Maria Clara Lobregat where we enjoyed
our dinner of the very affordable "bilao."

8) National Museum. After several attempts of going there and finding out that the museum is closed. We finally got our shot, on our last day, to see the inside of the place. It was a former military defense built by the Spaniards in the 17th century. The place was declared as National Cultural Treasure on August 1, 1973.

Special thanks to Robin, Almin and Chucky for helping my friends and I around the city! :)

while curacha is very expensive in zmb, those deep sea crabs are just part of the buffet spread in marriot hotel! kaloka! di ko sya pinapansin before, pero nung nalaman kong mahal sya, kumain ako bigla. haha

Elal Lasola said...

Super mahal nga, Chyng! Haha Kung ako din yun kakain din ako. Bitin kumain ng curacha pag di sanay. Hehe

Would love to try that Curacha yun nga lang baka mamulubi kami sa mahal. Hehehe.

Hindi pala masyadong halatang pink yung sand. Pero isa pa rin yan sa mga dream kong puntahan. Magkano nagastos mo?

Elal Lasola said...

Yakang yaka mo bumili Te Joan! Kaw pa!

Hindi nga pero pag andun ka may mga pink residues talaga sya. hehe

Mga 4.5k 5D/4N all in na. Magpopost ako soon. Pero eto muna kasi may gagamit ata ng pics na to somewhere. hehe
