I have been lucky to be have spent part of my life before technology kicked in and when it was introduced and evolved rapidly for the past decade. Who was not hooked when the onset of break games or Nintendo or the start of mobile phones with games even with a pixelized black and white Nokia screen? I sure know I am.
And when college started and I invested with a laptop for projects and requirements, majority of the other files in my laptop were filled with games of different sorts. Looking back, I do not know how I managed my time studying then having all those. I guess I winged it and it helped me managed my stress. After college, more technological advancements came and even
more to games. Smartphones are in and together with it entails, thousands of
applications and a percentage of those are games. I know I have a staple game
in my phone to when I am bored at home or queuing in line at my dentist. It may
vary from numbers game of 1024 to word puzzles or others like chess, plants vs
zombies, candy crush, diner dash, among others. And before pandemic, I was addicted
to pokemon go in 2016 but since I was self-aware about it and can’t concentrate
at work, I uninstalled it a few months when my level reached the peak. During pandemic,
I reinstalled it and got hooked again because, boy, were there so many updates
and changes that kept me exploring and playing especially the battles part!
Few months since the start of lockdown last year in the
Philippines, games have been interactive. We would download platforms that
would give us opportunity to play, talk and reconnect with ex workmates or high
school classmates. Some of which are among us, telegram’s werewolf, avalon,
quizzes and the like.
It has been a whirlwind of adventure through games at different
stages in my life and it just keeps getting better. Today, some websites
already offer games that you need not install on your phone which keeps your downloads
and memory lighter, I may say. I checked plays.org and boy was there hundreds
of games of varying levels I could choose from. I tried Tetra Blocks and Snakes
& Ladder, and made me miss the start of games in my life when I was just using
break games. My niece and nephew who are with me also, explored loads of their
Math games with me like Math Bee, Multiplication Table, Greater Less Same, Math
Signs Game, or Defense Math when they are pausing from their home modules this
pandemic. I also liked that they have the ones I usually install but now I can
simply bookmark in the browser, like chess, quizzes, among recue, among others.
I hope I could see one for 1024 in the future as that is my staple game when
taking a break from work. I cannot wait to read back to this post few years from
now and realize the further evolution of games and how it became a friend especially
through hard times in my life.
