Coron | Calauit Safari Park & Pamalican Island (Natural Arts Travel and Tour) Palawan

It has been around more than 3 years since the first time I visited Coron which has left me longing to come back. And when my friends and I decided to during my birth month, August, of this year, I did not think twice to say yes!

One of the highlights during my last visit, aside from the usual island hopping, is going to Calauit Island to see their Safari Park. Since both Marx and Rj haven’t been able to visit the said Safari Park, I went with them as well. The tour was arranged by Natural Arts Travel and Tours, and it was a good choice because it was one swift transition from pick-up from our place, going to Busuanga’s jump-off to Calauit Safari Park, going to Pamalican Island, side-trip to the falls en route Coron, and drop-off to our place.

For me, it was less of a hassle from the last experience I had because it was through land transportation via van. I mean it was nice and all to see the sea and islands via boat going to Calauit but it would take around 8 hours round-trip unlike via van of just around 4 hours round-trip. Not to mention, August is rainy season in the Philippines, so yeah, it is safer to travel via land on my second visit.

After pick-up from the hotel, we then went from Coron to Busuanga town for around 2 hours and had breakfast near Busuanga’s Catholic Church. We then prepared for a little bit before going to the boat’s jump-off point going to Calauit Island. Near where we had our breakfast is also a park where once can see the now famous “I LOVE BUSUANGA” landmark.

After a bit of stop in Busuanga town, we headed for around 30 minutes going to the where the boat’s going to Calauit are waiting. It was kind of drizzling then, but I was excited for my friends to the beautiful creatures at the Safari Park. Even when it was raining hard when we arrived at Calauit, we juggled our umbrellas and cameras to have a glimpse and take some snapshots around the Safari Park. Some of the highlights are the close-up encounter and feeding of the giraffes, walking around with zebras freely roaming, and seeing this endangered species of deer called Calamian deer which can only be found in the Calamianes group of Islands in Coron, Philippines. The said deer is one of three deer natives in our country, the other being the Philippines sambar and Visayan spotted deer.

After the wonderful close encounter at Calauit Island, we went back to Busuanga town for lunch and prepared for the island hop to Pamalican. It was around 2 in the afternoon when we arrived, it took longer than usual because monsoon season and the waters are rougher in the afternoon. But just like a sweet surprise, the sun shone over the impeccable white sand of the little island. We spent more than an hour taking pictures, strolling, and swimming, then went back for the long ride back to Coron.

But if you think our day’s excursion is about to end, which I thought it would, you and I are both wrong. See the guide told us if given enough time, we would have a waterfalls side trip and I thought we did not have enough time left! But we did visit the said falls which is the perfect way to end the trip, salt to fresh water with snacks and drinks.

It was a bang for the buck deal and a day’s worth of beautiful memories. If I would come back to Coron, Puerto Princesa or El Nido, I surely would not forget about Natural Arts Travel and Tours.
