Welcoming us in the humble municipality of Catmon, just right at the border after Carmen, is this long-standing beach resort which existed some twenty years ago. The name Huna Huna Cliff Resort is derived from the Cebuano term, “huna huna”, which means thoughts, thinking, or to think. And indeed, the place exudes where one can ponder their thoughts and simply relax with how it is situated with the beautiful scenery of cliff hanging Spanish-Mediterranean architecture overlooking the Camotes Sea.
After days of my first scuba diving adventure, it was such an immense comfort to be calling this place our home for a few days. Checked in late, just right before sundown, and we had a hard time choosing the best rooms because to be honest, all their cliff hanger rooms are a winner. The two we had trouble deciding was a spacious room with modern design that includes a huge and unobstructed window which lets you see the ocean from your bed. I mean, am I in Bali? Maldives? Bahamas?
As if the infinity feels of the ocean from your room isn’t enough, they also have rooms with balconies where one could just drink and unwind after a long day with nothing but the sound of sea waves crashing the rocky shores of Catmon. Well, it was a hard decision, but we opted for the first one. Though, we surely would visit our friends in the neighboring room with balcony. Haha They have wi-fi available via voucher given upon check-in. Their room rates vary from weekdays to weekends at around Php 3,000 per day for two pax which includes breakfast.
For food and dining, their restaurant accepts orders from breakfast to dinner with last order at around 8 pm. Their menu is mostly comprised with Western cuisine and incorporates Flipino cuisine as well. My favorite aside from the too many mango shakes, is their best seller “Huna Huna Pizza”, spaghetti Bolognese and their generous serving of grilled porkchop. You have numerous options where to dine, their restaurant is open but their cottages, poolside, several spaces meant for dining offers an amazing view of the ocean you wouldn’t want to miss. So, for our all-day dining, we opted to the cottage right outside our room because the view is spectacular, and it is convenient.
Spent several mornings with their pool area after every
sunrise, which I think is probably the most popular about Huna Huna because who
doesn’t want an infinity pool effect? I know, I do. Perfect to cool down and
relax with the vastness of Catmon Sea, clouds and trees shadowing when floating
around, plus they’ve got several Jacuzzis where true to its name “huna huna”, one
can really ponder thoughts all day long while listening to the sound of
crashing waves. As if that’s not inviting enough, it is environment friendly as
well since their pool filtration is powered by solar panels. How cool is that?
The resort is currently family-owned which has been bought and passed to its new owners who made a lot of additions through the years that makes this resort quite unique due to the boutique feels and vibes it gives when you pass through the different art installations and décor from its walkway, dining areas overlooking the sea, to the pool. Did I mention they have two Akita-Labrador gentle giants that just looks like some cuddly teddy bears? Yes, they do, and they roam freely and friendly among guests.
Right after check-out, as if our underwater exploration isn’t enough, we went to see the old church in Catmon at the town proper situated at the hills with a scenic view and the awe-inspiring Tinubdan Waterfalls. What an exciting town Catmon turned out to be!
