Our visit to Cebu last summer is a combination of what is familiar and what is not. Familiar because Cebu has constantly been close to my heart having lived in its neighboring island, Negros Island, almost all my life. And on the other hand, we seek to see what Cebu has to offer on a different perspective coming from Mactan Island.
I know that Cebu province consist a lot of wonderful gems from North to South and that it would take a lengthy amount of travel hours just to get there. But little did I know that a few minutes from the Mactan-Cebu International airport, the group of islands nearby could give an unforgettable island hopping adventure perfect for our summer visit.
Our stay at Cebu White Sands Resort and Spa was completed with our last day’s activity – snorkeling and island hopping. We first visited Hilutungan Island which is a famous dive spot and snorkeling area because of its fish sanctuary. And true to its name, it showed us various kinds and schools of fishes of different sizes. You’d be amazed how clear the water is even with little sunshine since the day started gloomy.
But everything changed when we got to our second stop, Islas Tres Rosas, a private island owned by CWS. The island is small but pretty. When we were there it’s as if the sun just decided to give us more of what we have and shone over the panoramic seascape. And even better because then it revealed the pristine aqua waters around Mactan. We took our lunch here and it was my favorite for photo shoots because of the vastness of the ocean from this island’s perspective.
Enroute to Olango Island, our third stop, you could see other island hoppers enjoying the sunshine and salt water, some were even celebrating birthdays and the like. We further snorkeled to this area where you could see enormous and gigantic corals aside from school of fishes in the area. I was a little bit scared with the deeper parts where the water is pitch dark blue to black already so I tried to stay away from those and tried to swim, more like paddle with my vest, against the current.
Overall, I pretty much enjoyed the day’s adventure around Mactan. I formerly thought that the area is not suitable for island hopping and such but I was gravely wrong. It was a brief adventure but worthwhile one especially because I have my friends around.
Cebu White Sands Resort and Spa arranged the whole island hopping/underwater experience and is located at Sitio Looc, Maribago Mactan Island, Lapu-Lapu Cebu, Philippine.
