Walk Around Dumaguete City: Silliman University and Bell Tower

Klook.com

An afternoon spent with my sister dear, we walked around the city proper (Silliman University to Rizal Boulevard and the Bell Tower), took some shots and boom it was a laid back blast that I truly miss in my home town.

We started walking in Silliman University Church and took some shots of the place and of course, portraits shots of ourselves too.

SILLIMAN CHURCH

Silliman University Church traces its roots to the early Presbyterian mission that laid the cornerstone of Silliman Institute in 1901.

Then walked nearby the Silliman University Portals in front the SU Portal Building.

Finally, I took some shots of the famous Silliman Hall facing Rizal Boulevard.

SILLIMAN HALL

The first building to be ever constructed in 1903, 2 years after the birth of Silliman Institute, was the Silliman Hall, a well-situated three storey edifice at the corner of Rizal Boulevard and Silliman Avenue with commanding views of the Dumaguete port and the Rizal Boulevard. It is, for the most part, a model of American design and architecture fashioned like an old-world colonial mansion.

The Silliman Hall, being the only existing facility at that time, held the school library, classroom, faculty and other essential rooms in one roof. At the height of World War II, it was sequestered by the Japanese army and used as their sleeping and eating headquarters before they fled when the American forces came to the rescue.

And finally savored the moment with my sissy at the Rizal Boulevard. :D

Going off to have our dinner, we passed through the Bell Tower near the Dumaguiete's Cathedral Church and took some shots too.

BELL TOWER

The Bell Tower is an old landmark of the city, and this tower is a mute witness to pirates from Mindanao who came in the late 18th century. Built between 1774 and 1776, the bell fry served as a watchtower with someone ringing the bell, alerting the village people of marauding pirates. Today, improvements were made on the bell fry along with the renovation of the church and convent.
